Necessary Documentation at time of pickup
 
Passport and visa  (required by all riders and passengers)
  • All riders and passengers require a valid passport and valid visa at time of pickup. 
  • All riders and passengers are responsible for all paperwork required for entry into Japan.

Drivers License (required for all riders)

  • All riders must be at least 21 years old to rent and ride a motorcycle from JBR.
  • All riders must have and be in possession of a valid and UNRESTRICTED motorcycle class driver's license.
  • In addition, all riders must have and be in possession of a valid and UNRESTRICTED international driver license, which is recognized by Japan.
  • French, German, Swiss, and Belgian international driver licenses are not recognized by Japan.  So instead of an International Driver’s license, an official Japanese translation of their valid and UNRESTRICTED motorcycle class driver’s license is required.
Credit Card and authorization form (required for all riders)
  • JBR requires the rider’s authorization to charge the rider's credit card for the following cases:
  arrow Additional charges such as extra mileage, late return, and refueling.
  arrow Damage and/or theft to JBR motorcycle(s) and/or equipment.
  arrow Other incident involving JBR motorcycle(s) and/or equipment.
  • The JBR ‘customer authorization form’ must be signed by each rider.
  • Once all the motorcycle(s) and equipment have been returned to JBR on time and in the condition in which they were rented, the authorization form and copy of rider’s credit card will be voided and destroyed.
‘Rental Agreement’ and ‘Terms and Conditions’ (required by all riders)
  • All riders must sign the ‘Rental Agreement’ and ‘Terms and Conditions’ at time of pickup.
  • JBR keeps the signed original of all said documents and provide a copy to all riders.
 
Payment & Cancellations
 
Booking Terms
  1. 1. Payment must be made by using the payment facilities on our website.
  2. 2. To confirm a booking, payment is required in full.
  3. 3. A credit card is required for all bookings.
  4. 4. The customer can cancel the rental booking at any time, however all cancellations must be received in writing (i.e. fax or e-mail) and a penalty fee may apply. See the "Cancellations Policy" section below for details.
  5. 5. Prices for all motorcycles and equipment are listed at the daily rate. A rental day is defined as a 24 hour period.
  6. 6. All listed prices include Japanese consumption tax and insurance.
Cancellation Policy
  1. 1. Cancellations made more than 30 days prior to departure  - 100% refund of full amount.
  2. 2. Cancellations made 21 - 30 days prior to departure  - 75% refund of full amount.
  3. 3. Cancellations made 11 - 20 days prior to departure  - 50% refund of full amount.
  4. 4. Cancellations made 1 - 10 days prior to departure  - 25% refund of full amount.
  5. 5. Cancellations made on day of departure or after departure - no refund.
 
Rental Conditions
 
Customer Orientation
All riders and passengers are required to take an orientation session prior to departure. This session will include basic motorcycle maintenance, rider safety information, information on Japan road rules and laws, as well as explanation of insurance coverage, liability and responsibility.
 
Equipment
Motorcycles do not include any additional equipment.
All other equipment, such as helmets, jackets and wet-weather gear are available for hire and should be pre-booked along with your motorcycle.

Storage
Japan Bike Rentals can provide storage for customer luggage (within reason). We are also able to hold airline tickets and other valuables free of charge, however at the customer's own risk.

Additional drivers and pillion passengers
One additional passenger is permitted free of charge. If the passenger intends to ride the motorcycle, he/she must meet the requirements to ride the motorcycle outlined in all the terms and conditions.

Replacement and Refunds at time of pickup
If JBR is unable to provide the reserved motorcycle due to unforeseen circumstances, a similar or better motorcycle will be provided at the same daily rate. If the rider is unsatisfied with the alternative motorcycle, the rider reserves the right to cancel the booking and then receive a 100% refund of the booking amount for the motorcycle and related accessories. Refunds will be processed in a timely manner and will be credited to the credit card used at the time of booking.

Replacement or Repair during trip
If your trip is interrupted due to a faulty, damaged, or stolen motorcycle/equipment, JBR will do everything reasonably possible to facilitate the speedy repair or replacement of the motorcycle/equipment so long as the rider has not acted negligently. JBR reserves the right to determine the appropriate course of action in all cases.
In the case of an accident, trouble or any kind of incident involving the JBR motorcycle(s) and/or JBR equipment, JBR reserves the right to charge the rider in order to repair the JBR motorcycle (s) and/or equipment and restore it to its original state.  For damage that is covered by JBR’s insurance, the rider will be liable up to 100,000yen.  JBR is not liable for any expenses not covered by JBR’s insurance.
 
Additional Charges
 
Motorcycle Mileage
Rentals of 4 days or more come with unlimited mileage. Rentals of less than 4 days are limited to 250km/day. Every extra km will be charged at a rate of 20 yen/km.

Fuel
Fuel costs are the rider's responsibility. All motorcycles come with a full tank of gas and are to be returned with a full tank of gas. The rider will be charged a 3000yen fee if the motorcycle requires refueling when returned.

Late Return Policy
Motorcycles returned late will incur an hourly late fee of 20% of the daily rate for that motorcycle. Motorcycles and/or equipment returned 5 hours late or more will incur a full day of additional charges. Additional payment will be charged to the rider's credit card at time of drop off.
 
Restrictions of Use
 
Riding restrictions
  • The rider must at all times observe the road rules of Japan and ride in a safe and responsible manner.
  • All traffic/parking violations incurred by the rider are the responsibility of the rider. The rider must inform JBR of any violations and must pay the fine in a timely manner.
  • The riding of JBR motorcycles is restricted to the 4 main islands of Japan (Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Hokkaido). Taking the motorcycle out of Japan is not permitted.
  • JBR motorcycles are not allowed on dirt roads or beaches. Nor are they allowed through water, mud or snow.
  • All and any form of stunt riding is not permitted.
  • No modifications to the motorcycle are permitted of any kind.
  • Riding in extreme weather conditions is not recommended and any damage caused to the motorcycle will be the responsibility of the rider.
  • Riding without a helmet is illegal and not permitted at any time for any reason.
  • The use of protective gear is highly recommended at all times.
  • The rider must be in possession of his/her (1) license and (2) international drivers license (or Japanese translation for German, Swiss, French, Belgian nationals) at all times.
  • Use of JBR motorcycles for commercial purposes requires written permission in advance.
  • Tampering with the odometer of a JBR motorcycle is not permitted.

Risk & Responsibility
 
Maintenance Responsibility
The rider is responsible for checking and maintaining engine oil levels and must report mechanical failures to Japan Bike Rentals immediately. The rider will be held responsible for mechanical damage due to negligence in motorcycle operation or failure to provide normal maintenance.

Damage
In the case of an accident, trouble or any kind of incident involving the JBR motorcycle or JBR equipment, JBR reserves the right to charge the rider in order to repair the JBR motorcycle(s) and/or equipment and restore it to its original state.  For damage that is covered by JBR’s insurance, the rider will be liable up to 100,000yen.  JBR is not liable for any expenses not covered by JBR’s insurance.

Theft or loss of equipment
In the case of theft or loss of motorcycle(s) and/or equipment, JBR reserves the right to charge the rider in order to replace the JBR motorcycle(s) and/or equipment.  For theft or loss that is covered by JBR’s insurance, the rider will be liable up to 100,000yen.  JBR is not liable for any expenses not covered by JBR’s insurance.

Parking or Speeding tickets
The rider is 100% responsible and liable for all speeding and parking tickets. The rider must inform JBR of any violations and must pay the fine in a timely manner.

Unforeseen circumstances
JBR is not responsible for any interruptions to trips caused by extreme weather, earthquakes or any other acts of nature/acts of god. JBR takes no responsibility for punctures. JBR takes no responsibility for any mechanical problems caused through rider negligence and/or lack of care and regular maintenance (i.e. oil checks, tire pressure, etc.). Nor shall Japan Bike Rentals be responsible or liable for any trip delays due to loss or damage to JBR property. Additionally JBR is not responsible or liable for any injury, illness or death of any person during the trip.

However, JBR will provide assistance in any and all emergencies. All motorcycles come with 24 hour roadside assistance.  This roadside assistance is available throughout Japan.  JBR will do everything reasonably possible to handle all incidents in a timely manner and with as little delay to the rider’s trip as possible.

Contract Termination
Japan Bike Rentals has the right to terminate the rental agreement and take immediate possession of the motorcycle if the rider or passenger fails to comply with any of the terms and conditions of this rental agreement, or if the rider appears to be unable to handle the motorcycle due to physical or mental difficulties.
 
Insurance
 
All prices stated in the ‘Bikes & Prices’ section of our website include comprehensive motorcycle insurance. Insurance coverage is a mandatory requirement and non-negotiable. A summary of this coverage is provided below.
